Contubernium
A term originating in Ancient Rome, meaning a quasi–marital relationship between two slaves or between a slave and a free person.
Although not a commonly used word in our current times, it represents a collection of concepts that contribute to a deeply seeded inversion of Truth in the Earth 4 reality. Examining this inversion of Truth is essential for anyone who is on the path of embodying Divinity in the name of Service.
In order to dive into the nuances of this inversion, let’s leverage the definition of contubernium. There are four terms within its definition that represent clues as to the nature of the inversion of Truth embedded within the concept. These terms are “quasi,” “marital,” “slaves,” and “free person.” We begin with “quasi.”
QUASI
“Quasi” means having some resemblance.
An example of the concept of quasi can be examined in Spirit. Spirit is a quasi-particle of Light in that it is an expression of Light without form. Here, the contradiction between expression and form breaks the logic on which the mind runs. In this breakage of logic, we are offered the reminder that the study of Self is not a journey for the mind.
CONTUBERNIUM
…a quasi-marital relationship… So here we note that the marital relationship referred to in the definition of contubernium is missing something. Before we examine what it’s missing, let’s examine what “marital” means.
MARITAL
“Marital” is defined as being of or relating to the state of marriage, where “marriage” is an arrangement of being joined in life; a close and intimate union. The use of the words “joined” and “union” are beginning to reveal Truth amidst the inversion.
To appreciate the fullness of the expression of the marital relationship, it is important to step off of the stage of life for a moment. In stepping off of the stage, we can examine the stage for what it is.
The stage of life is a place. It is a place to experience. Our stage is planet Earth. This planet is an experiential plane. It is a coveted experiential plane because on it, the phenomenon of the embodiment of Divinity is available. Acknowledging that we have available to us the experience of Divinity in form on this experiential plane is to acknowledge that the Sacred Union of the Divine Masculine and of the Divine Feminine expressions of Creation is available to us on Earth. We are not guaranteed this experience, although it is available on Earth in potential and this cannot be said for all experiential planes. Those on Earth with capacity to access this potential have available to them the experience of a marital relationship in which the two Beings are joined in life as they engage in close and intimate union. This union can be at Soul level, or it can transcend form and exist at Spirit.
And now, with these foundational expressions of Truth outlined, let us return to the meaning of a quasi-marital relationship.
QUASI-MARITAL
A quasi-marital relationship indicates that it is missing something (remember: “quasi” means having some resemblance). The quasi-marital relationship is missing something that, if present, would otherwise make it a full representation of matrimony. If we incorporate into our conceptualization of matrimony the Sacred Union of the Divine Masculine and of the Divine Feminine expressions of Creation available on this planet, we get even closer to the concealed Truth embedded within the foundational concepts that form this discourse. Without the Sacred Union of the Divine Masculine and of the Divine Feminine, marriage is but a quasi-marital relationship. This begs the question of what is required of us to embody our Divine expressions.
All of this adds pieces to the puzzle but we’re not quite there yet. To reveal the full picture, let’s Look at the rest of the definition of contubernium.
